Outdoor Activities in Lake District

A land of lakes, mountains and coast, the Lake District region is home to many outdoor activity centres unique gifting. Many of these centres are happy to accommodate all levels of experience and ages, offering everything from short tasters to full-day adventures. Here are my top picks. You can find many holiday cottages around the lake district that would be a great base for these amazing activities.

Mountain Biking

Whinlatter Forest is the best place to be if you’re serious about mountain biking. The Altura Trail is one route at Whinlatter. It’s red-graded, 19km in length, and is suitable for experienced riders with strong off-road skills. From your 500m above Keswick, you will have spectacular views of Bassenthwaite Lake (Derwentwater), Helvellyn, Skiddaw and other rock features if your eyes can be able to focus on the berms.

Whinlatter Forest’s Quercus Trail is the other mountain biking route. This route is blue-grade and suitable for moderately skilled riders. It has a choice between 3.5 and 7.5 km lengths. There are rolling jumps as well as gradual climbs. The trickier sections can be chosen or skipped depending on your level of skill. You’ll pass oak forests and tall conifer glades on the route.
